Secaucus University Hospital, part of Hudson Regional Health, has earned a 98 SEP-1 score in the latest data report released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The score places the hospital among the nation’s top performers – and as the highest-scoring hospital in New Jersey – in following nationally recognized protocols for the timely treatment of severe sepsis and septic shock.
“Achieving this milestone is a testament to our continued focus on clinical excellence and reflects the high standards of care our patients can expect every day at Hudson Regional Health,” said Chairman of the Board Yan Moshe.
“Sepsis is a medical emergency where every minute matters, and this recognition reflects our continued dedication to early identification and evidence-based protocols that help save lives.” said CEO and President Dr. Nizar Kifaieh.
The SEP-1 score evaluates how consistently hospitals follow CMS’s evidence-based care for patients with severe sepsis and septic shock. A score of 98 reflects exceptional compliance with these protocols, which are designed to support the rapid assessment and treatment of patients experiencing these life-threatening conditions.
Sepsis is a serious medical emergency that occurs when the body’s response to an infection damages its own tissues and organs. Early recognition and treatment of sepsis can significantly improve patient outcomes and mitigate serious complications.
