Seven Dead, One Critical

Police said the passenger vehicle was carrying eight people, all of whom were members of a local band party traveling to Bihar to perform at a wedding and Muharram-related event.

Seven passengers died on the spot due to the impact, while one survivor sustained critical injuries. The injured person was initially admitted to Ramgarh Sadar Hospital before being referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, for advanced treatment.

Head-On Collision During Overtaking

According to preliminary police investigations and eyewitness accounts, the coal truck was allegedly speeding and attempting to overtake another vehicle when it crossed into the opposite lane, crashing into the oncoming passenger vehicle.

The collision was so severe that the passenger vehicle was completely crushed, trapping several occupants inside. Local residents and rescue teams worked together to recover the victims.

Truck Driver Flees the Scene

Following the accident, the truck driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Police have seized the truck and launched a search operation to trace and arrest the driver.

A case has been registered, and investigators are examining CCTV footage and eyewitness statements to determine the exact sequence of events.

Victims Were Band Party Members

Initial reports indicate that the victims belonged to Marangmarcha and Balsagara villages in Ramgarh district. They earned their livelihood by performing with a traditional band and orchestra group at weddings, religious functions, and local events.

The incident sparked widespread anger among villagers and relatives of the deceased. Protesters blocked the Ramgarh-Bokaro Highway (NH-23), demanding stricter road safety measures, immediate compensation, and action against negligent drivers.

Residents alleged that 11 people have lost their lives in road accidents in the same region over the past three days, raising serious concerns about highway safety.
