From the Himalayan region to western and northern India, relentless rainfall has disrupted normal life, blocked highways, damaged infrastructure, and forced emergency rescue operations. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange and Red Alerts for several states, warning of continued heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next few days.

Himachal Pradesh Worst Hit

Himachal Pradesh remains the worst-affected state, reporting nine fatalities over the past two days.

The highest number of deaths has been reported from Kangra district, while Shimla, Kullu, Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti and Mandi have also witnessed fatalities caused by cloudbursts, landslides, drowning, electrocution and falling rocks.

Authorities have reported:

  • Heavy losses to public infrastructure worth crores of rupees
  • Rescue teams remain on high alert across vulnerable districts

Uttar Pradesh: Lightning Claims Two Lives

In Uttar Pradesh, lightning strikes during thunderstorms claimed two lives, while eight people sustained burn injuries, including four children.

The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals as the weather department continues to warn of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across several districts.


Maharashtra: Mumbai Man Dies After Falling Into Open Manhole

Heavy rainfall and severe waterlogging in Mumbai led to the death of a 60-year-old man after he accidentally fell into an open manhole in the Chandivali area.

Two others narrowly escaped electrocution in rainwater-logged areas as civic authorities intensified emergency operations across the city.


Arunachal Pradesh

Although no deaths have been officially reported, 21 people were injured due to landslides and rain-related road accidents triggered by continuous rainfall.

Several highways remain partially blocked while restoration work continues.


Uttarakhand

Continuous rainfall has disrupted the Badrinath and Kedarnath pilgrimage routes, with debris and landslides affecting movement.

Authorities reported only minor injuries, but precautionary restrictions remain in place at several vulnerable locations.


IMD Issues Fresh Heavy Rain Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the coming days and issued weather alerts for several states, including:
