A devastating road accident took place late Thursday night in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district, claiming the lives of five passengers and leaving 11 others seriously injured. The accident occurred around 11:30 PM near Keelramau village under Bagwala Police Station limits on the Etah-Aliganj Road, when a UPSRTC bus travelling from Farrukhabad to Delhi had stopped on the roadside due to a technical fault.
According to preliminary information, the bus driver and conductor were trying to repair the vehicle after it developed a mechanical problem. Meanwhile, several passengers got down from the bus and were standing beside the road. At that moment, a speeding canter truck coming from behind crashed violently into the stationary bus. The impact was so severe that several passengers standing behind the bus were run over.
Victims of the Etah Road Accident
Five people lost their lives in the tragic accident, including Rajesh (34), Sukhram (42), and Shailesh (32). The identities of two other deceased victims are yet to be confirmed. All 11 injured passengers were immediately shifted to Etah Medical College, where doctors stated that most of the injured are now out of danger.
Etah District Magistrate Arvind Singh said that the preliminary investigation suggests the accident was caused by overspeeding and negligence on the part of the canter truck driver. After the collision, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Bagwala Police have registered a case and launched a search operation. Police are also examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and tracing the truck driver through the vehicle’s registration number.
The tragedy once again raises serious concerns over road safety on national and state highways, particularly regarding the protection of stranded vehicles and the dangers of overspeeding. Experts believe that the absence of adequate warning signs and safety measures behind a broken-down vehicle significantly increases the risk of such fatal accidents.
