Four Dead After Small Airplane Crashes Near Seldovia, Alaska
A small single-engine aircraft that departed from Anchorage crashed into the shallow waters of Seldovia Slough on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the tragic deaths of all four people on board.
The accident occurred around 1:18 p.m. near Seldovia, a remote coastal community located about 219 kilometres southwest of Anchorage. Federal authorities confirmed that the aircraft, a Piper PA-24 Comanche, had taken off from Merrill Field Airport in Anchorage and was en route to the Seldovia Airport before it plunged into the water just short of the runway.
Following the impact, the aircraft became completely submerged in approximately 13 to 17 feet of water near the shoreline. Local residents and emergency responders immediately rushed to the scene and attempted a daring rescue, but they were initially hindered by a powerful incoming high tide that blocked access to the cabin.
It was not until later in the evening, around 6:30 p.m. when the tide receded, that Alaska State Troopers and salvage teams were able to reach the wreckage and safely recover the bodies of the four adult occupants from inside the fuselage.
The bodies of the victims have been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for official identification and autopsies, and their names will be released pending notification of next of kin. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact cause of the sudden crash.
This incident marks the second major aviation tragedy in Alaska within a single week, closely following a separate charter plane crash days earlier that claimed eight lives, intensifying scrutiny and safety concerns over flight operations in the region’s unpredictable weather conditions
Police Probe and Enhanced Safety Measures Following Twin Student Deaths at NIMS University
The police have intensified their investigation and enhanced security measures following the suspected suicides of two students from Uttar Pradesh within 48 hours at NIMS University in Jaipur. A special police team led by Station House Officer (SHO) Rajbir Singh is conducting rigorous interviews with room partners, close friends, and hostel staff to determine whether the students were facing any severe mental anxiety, ragging, or academic stress. Both bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination by a medical board, which will formally confirm the exact time and cause of death.
In the wake of this double tragedy, the university management and local authorities have significantly scaled up safety protocols and surveillance across the campus and its surrounding areas. Following the back-to-back incidents, university officials have doubled the deployment of security guards for patrolling the hostel premises, with explicit instructions to maintain strict vigil over upper floors and balcony areas to prevent such occurrences. To address the fear and psychological distress spreading among the student community, the university’s mental health and counseling wing has been fully activated to offer immediate psychological support and safe spaces for students to share their concerns.
Furthermore, since the second incident took place in an off-campus private facility, local police and administrative authorities have issued strict directives to all private hostel operators near the university. These operators are now mandated to monitor daily student attendance, keep a close check on their behavioral patterns, and immediately report any signs of unusual distress or anomalous activity to the authorities.
Fatal Training Aircraft Crash Near Ganga Barrage in Kanpur
A twin-engine, four-seater training aircraft crashed into an open field near Natthupurwa village along the Ganga Barrage in Kanpur on Thursday morning. The aircraft belonged to a private flying training academy, Garg Aviation, which operates out of the local civil aerodrome.
