A little extra sunshine may be coming to Glasgow and Barren County this weekend as local businesses prepare to “Paint the Town Yellow.”
The community-wide promotion, organized by Glasgow-Barren County Tourism, invites small businesses to embrace a bright yellow theme through decorations, special promotions and customer activities designed to bring people through their doors.
Storefronts throughout the area are expected to feature splashes of yellow, creating a cheerful summer atmosphere while encouraging residents and visitors alike to explore local businesses.
“Basically, it is a play on Small Business Saturday,” said Landry Steenbergen, a tourism representative. “We’re trying to bring that energy to this, but a summer version.”
While Glasgow-Barren County Tourism is coordinating the event, participating businesses are being encouraged to create their own unique experiences. Some locations will host scavenger hunts where customers can search for hidden yellow tags in exchange for discounts, while others are developing their own promotions, games and themed displays.
“We’re coordinating everything and getting everyone together, but each business is doing their own thing,” Steenbergen said.
The result is expected to be a weekend filled with bright displays, creative promotions and plenty of opportunities for shoppers to discover something new at locally owned businesses.
Steenbergen said the event is designed to support small businesses while also drawing additional visitors to the area.
“From a tourism standpoint, we’re just trying to get as many people here to our area,” she said. “But we’re also hoping that we can boost our small businesses, because it’s so important to shop local.”
The campaign is open to businesses of all types, regardless of what they sell, with organizers hoping the shared yellow theme helps create a recognizable community event that highlights the importance of supporting local commerce.
Businesses participating in Paint the Town Yellow will display yellow decorations or other visual markers throughout the June 12-13 event.
