Senators agreed to add language restricting the use of artificial intelligence and prediction markets by the U.S. military to their $1.14 trillion Pentagon policy bill this week.
Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) said the Senate Armed Services Committee added her AI Guardrails Act into its mark, which she said would “for the first time” enact “left and right limits on the Pentagon’s use of AI.”
That bill would require human control to launch nuclear weapons, conduct mass surveillance on U.S. citizens or operate lethal weapons systems.
