“A mother hugged her child to save them from the fire…”

According to eyewitnesses, the victims belonged to a family involved in the bangle business. The fire is believed to have been caused by a short circuit. Eyewitnesses stated that the blaze was so intense that people had no chance to escape. When the fire brigade reached inside, they found a woman sitting while clutching her child. Tragically, the woman had already died.

DG of Telangana Fire Services Confirms Cause

According to media reports, Y. Nagi Reddy, Director General of Telangana Disaster Response and Fire Services, stated:
“Initial investigations reveal that the fire was caused by a short circuit. All 17 deaths were due to suffocation from smoke inhalation, not burn injuries.”

He added that fire alerts were received at 6:16 a.m., and within a minute, 11 fire engines along with necessary personnel were dispatched to the site.

A Challenging Rescue Operation

Firefighters faced several difficulties during the rescue. The building had only a two-meter-wide entrance, resembling a tunnel. Access to the first and second floors was possible only via a one-meter-wide staircase, further complicating rescue efforts. Firefighters had to use oxygen masks and breathing apparatus.
Reddy confirmed, “The fire was brought under control by 9 a.m. A total of 21 people were present in the building.”

Tragic Loss of Innocent Lives

The Telangana Disaster Response and Civil Defense Department released a list of the deceased, which includes eight children under the age of 10.
The youngest victim was one-and-a-half-year-old Pratham. Other children included:
