PEMEX April Exports: Europe Overtakes the Americas
PEMEX exported an average of 418.2Mb/d of crude oil in April 2026, generating its highest export revenue since May 2025. The export price of the Mexican mix averaged US$94/b during the month, its highest level since July 2022, driven by the continued impact of geopolitical tensions in the Strait of Hormuz on global energy markets.
Fermachem Breaks Ground in Durango
Fermaca Dreams formally launched construction of the Fermachem Agro-Nitrogen Industrial Complex in the community of Sapioris, municipality of Lerdo, Durango on June 8, the same day PEMEX announced its own MX$93 billion petrochemical and fertilizer reactivation plan in Veracruz.
The simultaneous announcements represent the most concentrated investment commitment to domestic fertilizer production Mexico has seen in a generation, arriving at a moment when the Sheinbaum administration has made food and energy sovereignty a defining pillar of its industrial strategy.
Lessons From Donald Trump’s Iran War (Part 2)
Julio Trujillo, Director General, Bureau Soluciones Socioambientales, considers that the geopolitical deadlock in the Iran conflict exposes the limits of a rigid, over-optimized military hyperpower. Applying systems theory, he argues that the US-Israeli framework was highly vulnerable to regional disruptions like the Strait of Hormuz closure. For energy markets, this conflict shows that structural robustness ultimately outlasts optimized military performance.
IMP, UNAI Sign Collaboration Agreement on Energy Transition
IMP and UNAI signed a General Collaboration Agreement on June 3, formalizing a framework for joint action across research, technology development, talent formation, and the promotion of strategic projects for Mexico’s energy sector. The agreement was signed by Elizabeth Mar, Director General, IMP, and Pedro Sánchez, President, UNAI.
