Vande Mataram Bill Introduced in Rajya Sabha Amid Heavy Uproar .

Amid intense opposition protests and sloganeering, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai introduced the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026, in the Rajya Sabha. The landmark legislation aims to grant the National Song, ‘Vande Mataram’, the exact same statutory and legal protection currently enjoyed by the National Anthem, ‘Jana Gana Mana’.

Under the stringent provisions of this new amendment, anyone who intentionally prevents the singing of Vande Mataram or causes disturbances to an assembly lawfully engaged in such singing can face a maximum prison sentence of up to 3 years, a heavy financial penalty, or both. Opposition MPs strongly objected to the bill’s introduction, arguing that its phrasing could potentially infringe upon citizens’ fundamental liberties, leading to absolute chaos and the eventual adjournment of the Upper House.

Contrary to early reports of missing individuals, all 11 people on board—10 passengers and one pilot—survived and have been successfully accounted for, according to official statements from the U.S. Coast Guard and Kenmore Air. The single-engine turboprop aircraft had taken off from Seattle’s Lake Union and was heading toward Roche Harbor when it went down in Shallow Bay around 5:15 PM local time. Emergency response teams, alongside local good Samaritans, immediately launched a massive rescue operation to pull everyone from the water before the aircraft was completely engulfed in flames.

While all occupants escaped the burning plane, four individuals sustained serious injuries, including head trauma, lacerations, and broken bones, and are currently undergoing medical treatment. Two of the injured victims were rushed to medical facilities in Bellingham, while the other two were transported to Orcas Island for urgent evaluation. South Gujarat has triggered severe flood-like situations

Latest Update 08.56 AM IST Friday July 24 2026 / India Prime National Desk / The fury of the monsoon in South Gujarat has triggered severe flood-like situations, completely disrupting normal life across multiple districts.

The most devastating impact of this spell was recorded in Valsad district’s Umargam, which witnessed an unprecedented 1100 mm of rainfall within just 16 hours. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this extraordinary cloudburst ranks as the third-highest daily rainfall ever recorded in Indian history, leaving cities submerged in neck-deep water.

In response to the crisis, disaster management teams have launched massive rescue operations across the hardest-hit regions using boats and helicopters. Army, NDRF, and SDRF personnel successfully rescued 52 people trapped in the rising waters of Valsad, including a dramatic operation that saved 35 passengers from a bus stranded near Koparli. Meanwhile, in Navsari, another 38 citizens were safely rescued from deep floods, while state authorities have already relocated over 22,000 residents from low-lying areas to safer shelters.
The situation remains critical as major rivers including the Auranga, Purna, Ambika, and Kaveri continue to flow well above danger marks. The heavy deluge has left residential complexes, markets, and underpasses completely waterlogged in Valsad, Vapi, and Navsari. Furthermore, over 500 rural and state roads have been shut down due to severe damage and flooding, cutting off connectivity to dozens of villages.
