Bastar: ₹6.5 Crore Fraud in the Name of Government Jobs, 27 Arrested
A major fraud involving promises of government jobs has come to light in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, where unemployed youths were allegedly cheated of crores of rupees.
According to local media reports, 38 cases of job fraud have been registered in Bastar so far in 2026, with victims allegedly losing a combined ₹6.5 crore.
The accused reportedly targeted local and tribal youths by promising government jobs as clerks, peons, teachers and employees in the Forest and Health departments, as well as NMDC.
Police said the fraudsters attempted to gain the victims’ trust by showing them uniforms, forged documents and other fake employment-related papers.
Police teams from Kotwali, Bodhghat and Parpa police stations have so far arrested 27 accused, who have been sent to judicial custody.
Investigators are also tracking mule bank accounts allegedly used to transfer the fraudulently collected money. Police are attempting to trace the financial trail and recover funds for the victims.
