updated 05.48 PM IST Live Blog: Indiaprime National Desk Delhi / Four people have been killed in a massive explosion at an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in Sengamalapatti village near Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu.

According to police sources, the illegal operation was being conducted secretly inside an agricultural tin-shed to evade authorities when chemical friction triggered a powerful blast. The impact of the explosion completely destroyed the temporary structure, with its sound heard several kilometres away. One of the deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Ramprakash.

Fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot, doused the flames, and extracted the bodies from the debris. Local police have registered a case regarding the blatant safety violations and have launched a thorough investigation.
