A tragic and severe road accident occurred in the Suryapet district of Telangana during the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The incident took place between 4:30 AM and 5:15 AM on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway (NH-65) near Dwarkunta village in the Kodad mandal. This heart-wrenching crash resulted in the immediate death of at least 6 passengers, including 5 women, while more than 12 others sustained critical injuries and were rushed to nearby medical facilities.
The disaster unfolded when a private electric travel bus (EV Bus), en route from Hyderabad to Eluru in Andhra Pradesh, rammed into the back of a container truck laden with heavy iron pillars and rods. According to the preliminary police investigation, the truck had reportedly hit a road divider just moments before the high-speed bus crashed into it from behind. The impact was so violent that the chains securing the iron pillars snapped, causing the massive metal rods to pierce through the front windshield of the bus and slice straight into the passenger seating area, leaving those in the front rows with absolutely no time to escape. There were around 42 to 43 passengers on board the bus at the time of the collision.
Upon receiving the emergency alert, local police and administration teams rushed to the site to launch a rescue operation. Because the front portion of the bus was completely crushed and mangled, rescuers had to deploy cranes and specialized gas-cutting equipment to slice open the wreckage and extricate the trapped passengers and bodies. The horrific crash caused a massive traffic gridlock stretching several kilometers along the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway, which was eventually cleared by the police after two hours of intensive efforts to move the damaged vehicles.
All the injured passengers were immediately transported to the Kodad Government Hospital for emergency treatment. According to attending doctors, the condition of several victims remains highly critical, prompting authorities to refer those with life-threatening injuries to a advanced hospital in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, for specialized care. The police have sent the bodies of the deceased for post-mortem examinations and have initiated the process of notifying their respective families.
