Syria Court Sentences Ousted Dictator Bashar al-Assad to Death
A court in Damascus, Syria, has reportedly sentenced former and ousted President Bashar al-Assad, his brother Maher al-Assad, and his cousin Atif Najib to death in connection with alleged crimes against humanity.
The court reportedly found Assad guilty of deliberate mass killings, the killing of children, chemical attacks and torture of civilians during the country’s long and devastating civil war, which lasted for nearly 14 years.
Following his ouster in December 2024, Bashar al-Assad fled Syria and is currently reportedly living in Russia. The historic verdict was therefore delivered in absentia.
The current Syrian government is reportedly making international efforts to secure his extradition.
Horrific Incident in Pune: 4-Year-Old Girl Attacked by Pack of Seven Stray Dogs
A horrifying incident has been reported from Chikhali in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Maharashtra, where a four-year-old girl was allegedly attacked by a pack of seven stray dogs.
The terrifying incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera. The footage reportedly shows the dogs knocking the child to the ground and attacking her.
Hearing the girl’s screams, local residents rushed to the spot and managed to drive the dogs away using sticks and stones, saving the child’s life.
The girl was rushed to a hospital in serious condition. Doctors reportedly had to put more than 80 stitches, particularly around her head, to treat the deep wounds sustained in the attack.

New Law on ‘Vande Mataram’ Comes Into Force; Insulting National Song Could Lead to Jail
A major legal development aimed at strengthening respect for India’s national symbols and national song has reportedly taken place.
Following approval from President Droupadi Murmu, the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Act, 2026 has reportedly come into force.
Under the new law, the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ has reportedly been given legal protection similar to that accorded to the national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’.
Anyone who deliberately obstructs the singing or playing of Vande Mataram or publicly insults the national song could face criminal action.
The reported punishment includes up to three years in prison, a fine, or both.
US Appeals Court Clears Way for Lawsuits Against Major Social Media Companies
A US federal appeals court, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, has reportedly delivered a major setback to technology giants including Meta, Google, TikTok and Snapchat.
The court has allowed more than 3,000 lawsuits involving allegations that social media platforms contributed to addiction among children and teenagers, as well as associated mental-health problems such as stress and depression, to move forward.
The companies had invoked Section 230 of US law, seeking legal immunity from the lawsuits. However, the court reportedly rejected their attempt to obtain broad protection.
The ruling could now expose the technology companies to extensive litigation and potentially significant financial penalties.
Bloody Crime in Bihar’s Purnia: Bank Employee Allegedly Shoots Wife in Front of 9-Year-Old Son
A shocking murder has been reported from Khazanchi Hat police station area of Purnia district, Bihar, where a bank employee allegedly shot and killed his wife, identified as Shalini, following a domestic and family dispute.
The most disturbing aspect of the incident is that the alleged shooting reportedly took place in front of the couple’s nine-year-old son.
According to reports, the accused allegedly shouted, “Today I will finish the story,” before firing multiple shots at his wife.
The deceased, Shalini, had reportedly cleared the BPSC examination and was working as a government school teacher.
The accused bank employee reportedly fled the scene following the incident. Police teams are conducting raids to locate and arrest him.
