Punjab and Haryana High Court bans Punjab government advertisements
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has banned the Punjab government from issuing advertisements due to pending dearness allowance (DA) arrears of state employees. Objecting to the state’s ₹317 crore publicity expenditure, the court ordered the government to release ₹14,191 crore in pending arrears within 15 days, warning of penal interest if the payment is delayed.
The Punjab government is currently navigating a severe financial crisis, burdened by a debt of over ₹4.13 lakh crore and the expenses of various welfare schemes. With the state’s total debt touching nearly 45% of its GSDP, employee salary payments are facing delays. A division bench of the court, comprising Acting Chief Justice Ashwini Kumar Mishra and Justice Rohit Kapoor, issued the order while dismissing the Punjab government’s appeal. The government had challenged a previous single-bench order directing it to pay the DA to its employees. The court has now ordered the government to release the full pending DA arrears to employees and pensioners within the next 15 days. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh acquitted in sexual harassment case
New Delhi: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Monday, August 3, 2026, acquitted Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the former president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and former BJP MP, in the alleged sexual harassment case filed by women wrestlers.
The court clarified in its verdict that the prosecution failed to prove the allegations against him with concrete evidence, leading to his acquittal due to a lack of evidence. While delivering the judgment, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Ashwini Panwar also acquitted co-accused and former assistant secretary of the wrestling federation, Vinod Tomar, of all charges.
The verdict was pronounced during in-camera proceedings, where the media was not permitted inside.
Following the decision, Brij Bhushan’s lawyers termed it an ‘honourable acquittal’. This high-profile case stemmed from serious allegations levelled by top women wrestlers of the country, including Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik, who had held historic protests for weeks at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar in 2023.
Following intense protests by the wrestlers and intervention from the Supreme Court, the Delhi Police had filed a chargesheet against Brij Bhushan under serious sections, including outraging modesty (Section 354), sexual harassment (Section 354A), and stalking (Section 354D). However, after a long legal battle and reviewing statements of the witnesses, the court held that the allegations could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Jodhpur Four of a family injured, young girl dead after room ceiling collapses
A tragic accident near Ishkiya School in Nagori Silawaton Ka Bas, located at Nagori Gate in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, on Monday morning (August 3, 2026) resulted in the death of a young girl and left four others injured.The incident occurred around 5:00 AM while the entire family was fast asleep.

Because the stone slabs fell directly onto the bed, all four suffered serious injuries to their heads, hands, and legs.Immediately after the incident, local youths from the Silawat community and neighbours showed quick thinking and immediately began clearing the heavy debris and stones. House roof collapsed in JP Nagar, New Usmanpur, Delhi couple died.
The tragic accident occurred on Sunday night (August 2, 2026) at around 10:00 PM in JP Nagar, Gonda area, under the jurisdiction of the New Usmanpur police station in Northeast Delhi. The roof slab of a single-story old building suddenly collapsed onto the family sleeping below. Showing immense bravery despite the chaos, the young child immediately called his relatives to inform them about the accident.
Initial police investigations reveal that the building was an extremely old and weak structure. Due to recent continuous heavy rainfall in Delhi, severe water logging and dampness had accumulated on the roof slab, which the weakened structure failed to withstand, leading to the fatal collapse
