07.40 Am IST wednesday 29 July 2026 Indiaprime National Desk Delhi .India live news updates. TamilNadu The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) and other investigative agencies have been actively pursuing cases involving senior Tamil Nadu politician and former minister, V. Senthil Balaji, along with his close associates. Recently, the anti-corruption bureau conducted early morning raids and extensive searches at the residences of Senthil Balaji’s close aides and friends in Karur.

In addition to these raids, Balaji faces allegations of offering a ₹35 crore bribe to a TVK MLA in an attempt to destabilise the government. While the Madras High Court granted him anticipatory bail in this bribery case, he is legally required to regularly sign in at the Triplicane police station.

In response to the frequent actions, Senthil Balaji and his brother, V. Ashok Kumar, moved the Madras High Court seeking protection against what they termed as “harassment” by the DVAC and the police under the guise of investigation. However, the High Court dismissed their plea, terming it “premature.” The court emphasized that investigative agencies cannot be stopped from performing their statutory duties, clearing the way for the anti-corruption bureau to proceed with its lawful inquiries.
Compounding his legal challenges, the Madras High Court recently transferred the investigation of a alleged ₹397 crore transformer tender scam—dating back to Balaji’s tenure as the Electricity Minister—from the state’s DVAC to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The court ordered the DVAC to hand over all case files and records to the central agency for a deeper probe. Despite previously securing bail after a prolonged jail term in the enforcement directorate’s ‘cash-for-job’ scam, Senthil Balaji continues to remain under intense scrutiny by both state and central anti-corruption bodies.
