Red Alert for 11 districts in Uttarakhand

07.23 AM IST LIVE Updates July 27, 2026: India Prime National Desk Delhi/ The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe Red Alert for 11 districts in Uttarakhand—including Dehradun, Nainital, Bageshwar, and Chamoli—warning of extreme monsoon rainfall through the end of July.

The heavy, ongoing precipitation has prompted school closures in affected areas, triggered severe risks of flash floods and landslides, and caused significant traffic disruptions on major routes like the Badrinath and Yamunotri highways

The torrential monsoon rainfall across Uttarakhand last night triggered frequent landslides, severe waterlogging, and the closure of multiple connecting roads, throwing normal life out of gear. Intense downpours caused critical rivers and seasonal streams to swell, raising flash flood alarms in low-lying areas of Dehradun and Nainital.

Due to heavy debris accumulation from overnight landslides, traffic was severely disrupted or halted on key routes—including sections of the Badrinath and Yamunotri National Highways—prompting the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to go on high alert and advise commuters to avoid unnecessary night travel
