India Prime Tv Breaking Desk .A horrific accident occurred in the Vellore district of Tamil Nadu, where a under-construction roof of a Church of South India (CSI) building collapsed. The incident took place at Mandi Krishnapuram near Katpadi. The tragic collapse resulted in the death of 3 laborers, while 11 others sustained severe injuries. The accident happened while the workers were standing on a 20-foot-high steel scaffolding, pouring concrete to lay the roof. Suddenly, the massive structure along with the wet concrete caved in like a pack of cards, trapping the workers underneath the heavy debris.

Following the collapse, local police, fire and rescue services, and police personnel from neighboring Andhra Pradesh rushed to the spot since the location is very close to the state border. Given the scale of the debris, a 38-member team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Arakkonam was deployed along with sniffer dogs. The NDRF and local rescue teams carried out a grueling hours-long operation to pull out the trapped laborers. Three workers died on the spot due to the impact, while the 11 rescued individuals were immediately rushed to the Vellore Government Medical College Hospital, Christian Medical College (CMC) Hospital, and hospitals in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.
A Biryani Break Averts a Massive Catastrophe
Amidst the devastation, a miraculous turn of events saved dozens of lives. Reports revealed that just minutes before the collapse, biryani was being served to the laborers near the construction site. A large group of workers had walked away from the under-construction roof to eat. Authorities noted that if those workers had remained under the structure or continued working at that exact moment, the casualties would have been catastrophic. This brief food break ultimately shielded dozens of laborers from the deadly collapse.
Administrative Action and Ongoing Technical Investigation
Vellore District Collector P.S. Leela Alex visited the accident site to oversee the relief operations. She announced the formation of a specialized technical committee to investigate the exact cause of the structural failure and assess the quality of the construction materials used. Furthermore, the administration is thoroughly checking whether the project organizers had obtained the mandatory legal sanctions, clearances, and building permits from local authorities. The Thiruvalam police have registered a case and initiated a formal investigation into the matter.
