Indiaprime Sports Desk Delhi .Live Sports Updates Today: Commonwealth Games 2026, Cricket, Football & Breaking Sports News | 31 July  Today is a crucial day for India at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, as several top athletes, including Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, are set to compete. Here is a complete analysis of today’s schedule, the latest updates, and how India’s performance compares with previous editions of the Games.

Commonwealth Games 2026 Today (July 31): India’s Complete Schedule (Today’s Key Events)

India is currently placed 10th in the medal standings. The country added two more medals to its tally on Thursday. Today, several Indian athletes will compete in medal events and semifinal matches. All timings are in Indian Standard Time (IST).

Javelin Throw (Medal Event)

At 12:45 AM IST (August 1), the men’s javelin throw final will take place. Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, along with Rohit Yadav and Yash Veer Singh, will compete for India with hopes of winning the gold medal.

Boxing (Semifinals)

A total of 10 Indian boxers will compete in semifinal bouts across different weight categories. All of them have already secured at least a bronze medal and will now aim to qualify for the final and guarantee either silver or gold.

Key Bouts:

  • 3:15 PM: Preeti Pawar
  • 7:15 PM: Jaismine Lamboria (57kg)
  • 12:45 AM: Lovlina Borgohain (75kg)
  • 1:00 AM: Sachin Siwach (60kg)

Athletics (Medal Events)

Tejaswin Shankar will participate in multiple decathlon events, including hurdles, discus throw, and pole vault during the afternoon session. His final and medal-deciding 1500m event is scheduled for 1:05 AM.

Additionally, Yashas and Santosh Kumar will compete in the 400m hurdles final at 1:30 AM.

Judo

India’s judo campaign begins at 3:30 PM, with Asmita Dey (48kg) and Yamini Maurya (47kg) competing in the quarterfinals.

Track Cycling

At 10:46 PM, Dinesh Kumar and Rojit will compete in the men’s 4000m Individual Pursuit Final, where India could contend for another medal.

Latest Medal Update and Medal Standings

India is currently placed 10th in the medal table. On Thursday, India added two more medals to its tally:

  • Lovepreet Singh won the silver medal in the men’s 110kg+ weightlifting event.
  • Seema Punia (Kaliramna) secured the bronze medal in the women’s discus throw.

Total Medal Count

India now has 17 medals, including:

  • 3 Gold
  • 10 Silver
  • 4 Bronze

Australia leads the medal table with 110 medals, while England occupies the second position.

How Does India’s Performance Compare With Previous Commonwealth Games?

At first glance, India’s medal tally may appear lower than in the previous Commonwealth Games. However, there is a significant reason behind it.

Major Indian Sports Removed

The Glasgow 2026 edition has been significantly reduced in size. Sports such as Wrestling, Badminton, Table Tennis, and Hockey have been completely removed from the competition.

The Medal Mathematics

At the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, India won 61 medals. Out of those, 30 medals came exclusively from Wrestling, Badminton, Table Tennis, and Hockey. Since these sports are not part of Glasgow 2026, a lower overall medal tally was expected.

Performance in the Remaining Sports (Like-to-Like Comparison)

If only the sports that remain on the program—such as Athletics, Weightlifting, and Boxing—are considered, India’s performance has been outstanding.

  • India has consistently won medals in Weightlifting and Athletics.
  • Mirabai Chanu created history by winning her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal.
  • Indian boxing has produced its best-ever campaign, with 10 boxers reaching the semifinals, the highest medal-guaranteeing performance in the country’s Commonwealth Games boxing history.
  • In Para Athletics, India achieved a historic 1–2 finish in the men’s 100m T47 event, with Dilip Gavit winning gold and Mohammad Basil claiming silver.

India’s performance this year should not be viewed as “poor”; rather, it is limited by the reduced number of sports included in the Games. In every event where India has participated, the athletes have maintained the same determination and an impressive medal strike rate as in previous editions.
