The operation involved targeted missile strikes on nine terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). In the aftermath, Pakistani media and social media handles propagated numerous false claims, which were debunked with facts by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check and the Ministry of Defence. False Claim: Indian Army Brigade Headquarters in Rajouri Destroyed

  • Rebuttal: PIB immediately labeled this claim as fake, stating that no Indian military facility in Rajouri was attacked following Operation SINDOOR. This claim was spread by Pakistani social media users.

False Claim: Three Indian Air Force Fighter Jets Crashed in the Himalayas

  • Rebuttal: PIB dismissed this claim as entirely false. The image used to support this claim was from an unrelated 2019 incident. Some Pakistani social media handles and even the Chinese news website China Daily promoted this misinformation, which the Indian government promptly debunked.

False Claim: Pakistan Destroyed India’s S-400 Air Defence System

  • Rebuttal: PIB Fact Check declared this claim completely fabricated. India’s S-400 system, known as “Sudarshan Chakra,” is fully operational and successfully neutralized Pakistani drones and missiles. The claims circulated on social media used old photos and unrelated videos, irrelevant to the current situation.

False Claim: India Launched Missile Attacks on Afghanistan and Iran

  • Rebuttal: This claim is entirely false. India has not violated the sovereignty of any foreign nation. Both Afghan and Indian authorities have refuted this.

False Claim: India Fired Missiles on Its Own Territory in Amritsar and Adampur

  • Rebuttal: Pakistan’s DG ISPR claimed that India fired missiles on its own soil. PIB labeled this as completely false and misleading propaganda. No internal attacks were conducted by India on any of its cities or bases.

False Claim: Indian Air Force Aircraft and Military Bases Destroyed

  • Rebuttal:
    • Viral videos were old and unrelated to recent events.
    • The claim of capturing a female pilot named Shivani Singh was fake.
    • A MiG-29 crash image from September 2024 was misrepresented as a recent event.

False Claim: Airbases in Gujarat, Bathinda, and Nagrota Destroyed

  • Rebuttal: PTV and other Pakistani channels claimed that several Indian airbases were completely destroyed. PIB clarified that no military damage occurred at these locations, describing the claims as part of a psychological warfare strategy.

False Claim: Explosions at Jaipur and Srinagar Airports

  • Rebuttal: Social media rumors about explosions at these airports were spread to create panic. PIB confirmed no explosions occurred, and the claims were purely fabricated.

False Claim: Cyber Attacks on Railways, Gas, and Power Sectors

  • Rebuttal: Claims that railways, Delhi Gas Discom, and Kashmir Electric Discom were hacked and their data deleted were entirely false. PIB confirmed that these institutions’ operations were unaffected.
